J.K Rowling is about to kill off the boy wizard once and for all in a few days time (that is if the world is not able to convince her otherwise). I believe this is therefore the best moment for me to tell the world what I think about Harry Potter. Forgive my bias, but I have hated the children's book for a long time, mainly because it is a child's book and children have become obsessed with it. Raising children on things we all agree are not real and border on the lines of evil in the real world, for most people, is hardly good taste. While I believe a good book should be read for its fine literature value, it seems books should also be appraised for what they give to the reader.
Raising a child on an unreal world and then expecting him or her in later years to rise up to reality and maturity is folly, to say the least. Our Harry Potter raised generation will soon find out life is not that fictional at all and there are no magic wands.
Maybe I am making too much of it and so I just think I will shut up. J.K. Rowling will rake in her millions soon and we can only praise her for capturing the attention of a whole generation. As to whether the generation will have been better off without her, time will tell.
